Storm Arwen: a fallen tree ignites on electric cables

STRONG winds blew over a tree over power cables and started a fire in rural Dorset.

Firefighters at the Bridport Fire Station responded to a report of a fallen tree in a field in Walditch at 1:49 a.m. today (Saturday, November 27).

The teams saw that the tree had fallen on the electric cables and had caught fire.

Photos taken by firefighters show that the large tree had fallen on the cables and the tip of the tree was on.

Western Power Distribution engineers isolated the power from the high voltage cables to allow Bridport firefighters to fight the blaze.
